Ammo Box Make-Over
A friend contacted me to help revive a planting she had loved, but accidentally left out on the porch a little too late in the season. We texted and discussed what she was interested in, and a container she wished to use. She sent me a picture and I was sold – she had this amazing ammo box with all sorts of character – rust and dents all over – that had been filled with beautiful succulents to begin with. She showed up at my house with this behemoth of a box and shared with me the story of picking it out on her parents farm in the cold of winter. I was able to refresh and amend the soil and place a variety of succulents to create this low maintenance display. This arrangement sits on a patio, and will require bright light to maintain the compact form of the rosettes. Direct West Texas sunlight all day is not necessary, or recommended, as it can burn the leaves of tender succulents such as the echeverias. With weekly watering, this display will certainly last all summer and even into next year if brought inside before freezing temps set in.
